More than once I imagine building a giant fan to blow all the yellow dust back to China. I thought this was only possible in a cartoon, however, it seems someone has decided to bring the cartoon alive.

Group of Canadian engineers are constructing a wall that literally sucks carbon dioxide right out of the air. While they only have a prototype at the moment, the plan is to have a these walls of fans built in places where its necessary.

UN News - Earth Hour 2016: UN goes dark to spotlight climate change

UN News - Earth Hour 2016: UN goes dark to spotlight climate change

19 March 2016 – The United Nations will go dark later this evening as the Organization shuts off the lights at its iconic Headquarters complex in New York and other facilities around the world in observance of 'Earth Hour,' an annual global event to put the spotlight on the issues facing the planet and to inspire millions across the world to live more sustainably.
In a video message, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, said: “This year's Earth Hour comes at a pivotal moment. Last December, all the world's Governments came together to adopt the Paris Agreement on climate change. This is a historic achievement for people and the planet – but only if we follow through on the promises made.”
Organized by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), Earth Hour encourages individuals, companies, organizations and Governments to switch off their lights for one hour at 8:30 p.m., local time worldwide, to focus attention on people-driven solutions to protecting the planet and building a bright, sustainable future.
Mr. Ban notes that the world is now entering a new era of opportunity. “Together, we can create the low-emissions future the world needs for sustainable development and a life of dignity and stability for all. Earth Hour reminds us that we all have a role to play.”
First launched in 2007, Earth Hour has become an annual event, mobilizing hundreds of millions of individuals to participate and growing to become the world's largest grassroots movement for the environment.
According to the WWF, the UN family will join the thousands of homes, offices, skylines and monuments that will go dark to put the spotlight on the issues facing the planet, and to inspire millions across the world to live more sustainably. At least 178 countries and territories are expected to take part in this year's celebrations.
So far over 366 landmarks are confirmed and will be turning off on the night of Earth Hour including iconic sites such as the Brandenburg Gate, Empire State Building, Sydney Opera House, the Roman Colosseum and Marina Bay Sands.
Amongst participating countries this year 90 are taking actions to achieve impact during Earth Hour through digital interactions, engaging local communities and raising awareness, adds the WWF.

National Parks Adventure Trailers-Narrated by Robert Redford. 100th anniversary of National Park Service.

Interview excerpts from the movie producer Shaun Macgillivray
What was your goal as producer of the film? What were you trying to accomplish?
Our biggest goal was to immerse people in these incredible places and inspire them to not only care about these parks, but also want to protect them for the next generation. The way we live now, we spend so much of our day stuck in an office or in big cities. You really need to experience these places for yourself in order to realize how important they are and how much they do for our soul. One of the great things about these types of films is that you feel like you’re being taken somewhere. You’re immersed in an interesting new environment. I think that can change behavior and inspire people to actually go outside and experience this for themselves.
Who is the target audience for the film, and how many people are you hoping to reach with it?
These are giant-screen films that play in museums and science centers around the world, so you’re looking at a diverse audience—the 4-year-old up to the 94-year-old. Twenty-five percent of our audience is usually on a school field trip—fifth, sixth, and seventh graders. And a lot of families. We also get a more affluent crowd, people who love to travel. So it’s an interesting mix, but one that I think is important.
What was it like to work with Robert Redford as the narrator for the film?
We were very excited to have Robert Redford as a narrator. He is obviously a fantastic fit; he is so passionate about the environment and truly what people think of as a kind of Americana brand. When he said yes, we were jumping for joy. We are recording him this month, and so it’s going to be a real treat to be able to meet him and get to hear his voice cut to the film.
When is the film opening, and where will people be able to see it?
It comes out on February 12 and will be playing in just over 50 theaters in the United States and in more around the world. It will be in or near almost every major city in the States. On the West Coast, it will be showing at the Pacific Science Center in Seattle, the California Science Center in Los Angeles, and the Tech Museum of Innovation in San Jose. We’ve got some fantastic establishments where it will play for six months to a year.
“National Parks Adventure” opens February 12, 2016 in select IMAX®, IMAX 3D® and other giant-screen theatres.

2015 Time for Global Action for People and Planet
- What Young People can do for the People and the Planet at a Local Level

Winner's name: Justin Chung (South Korea)
Prize: Eco-generation Prize

Currently, threats to the environment are significantly growing at a dangerous speed. These threats are being caused by various reasons around the world. I'm from Seoul, Korea where many ecosystem related problems can be spotted all over the city. Littering, smoking, excess use of electricity, etc. are exposed on a daily basis. In this region, polluting the environment has become a natural process and not many are motivated to change this. I truly believe that this needs to be altered to create a healthy planet. In order to settle this problem, everyone needs to contribute, especially children and youth. Just by changing the pattern of our daily lives, we can benefit the environment and resolve the issues.

First of all, means of transportation can hugely affect the environment. For instance, using bicycles or just walking to go places are more environment-friendly. Cars and other motor vehicles pollute the air while scooters, bicycles, skateboards, etc. do not. In addition, taking public transportations such as buses or subways can also support the environment. This is very important because pollution needs to be reduced immediately. Pollution is the major problem that causes human and animal casualties, and harms earth in detrimental ways. Among various types of pollution, air pollution is getting worse at an alarming rate and is becoming an epidemic in our society.  Secondly, recycling and preventing littering can be a big part in solving the environmental problem. Recently, I moved into a new apartment that was built just this summer. In our case, we put a lot of effort in filtering recyclable material such as cans, clothes, plastic, etc. We could?ve just thrown all these away into the garbage can, but we decided to sort these into different sections to help the cause. When we completed this process, there was a significant decrease of waste that would've otherwise caused extra pollution. This is when I realized the vital importance of recycling. Due to this personal experience, I believe that recycling can easily be done by a youth like me and gradually help achieve a greater goal. In our everyday lives, we need to remember that our tiny actions of recycling can lead into a huge change in the pollution and the way our world is running. Currently, social media is taking over the entire globe. Then isn't this the perfect chance to share the idea of saving the environment? Just one post on a blog, facebook, twitter, snapchat, instagram, etc. can remind people to be eco-friendly in their daily lives. This can easily be done by young people and is an ideal plan to benefit the ecosystem in practical ways since everyone is linked online. So remember, one small post can change the perspective of many people to be friendly to our debilitated world.

In conclusion, the earth is in a helpless state where people need to take action in order to survive. However, remember that it does not take a lot to help the environment. Anyone can do it regardless of age by treating the environment as if it was our own body. For example, just putting a plastic waste into the recycling bin instead of a general garbage bin will eventually help earth to be less contaminated. Through personal experiences, I realized that being eco-friendly is not difficult at all. Ways to help the environment are all around us if we just stop to think about how we can change our actions for the benefit of the environment. Even young people like me could actually help the cause by making small actions and by altering our old and bad habits.
